bringing keller home 2+2=4

what a blessing this week has been.  my parents have been here with us and we couldn't be more grateful and thankful.  i don't know how we'd be making it without them.  and i know evie is loving all the wonderful time with mimi and papa!

this past tuesday we went in for a weight check at the pediatrician.  when we left the hospital, keller had a lost a little bit of weight (down 4 oz). but at the checkup she was weighed and she had gained 8 oz!  wow!  the only concern we have run into has been the fact that keller's cord fell off a little early.  it wasn't completely dried up, and so the doctor had to treat the remaining cord with silver nitrate.  we had to go back in again today for another treatment which will hopefully do the trick!

keller is such an easy going baby.  she cries only when hungry and is sleeping like a champ.  evie is super protective of her, and has actually yelled at people who are visiting when they appear to be "threatening" her baby sister.  such a good big sister!

i'm feeling awesome.  i sleep better than i did when pregnant and my body feels much less beat up this time around.  praise the lord!

hospital memories

we spent two three days and two nights in the hospital.  after they moved us to our room (ahem, suite) we went to the nursery to watch keller get her first bath.  some nursing students got an opportunity to learn how to do this, so it was fun to see them be just as excited a we were!

family of four

we had lots of wonderful visitors while we were in the hospital.  we were so grateful for this especially after being in seattle for evie's birth with only a few friends.  loved having so many family and friends be able to share this experience with us!  i wasn't even able to remember to get pictures with all of our visitors!

surprisingly, we were able to get a lot of rest while in the hospital.  keller spent both nights in the nursery so mom & dad could get some much needed sleep. but during the day, we were able to relax and enjoy time with evie, family, and friends.  the hospital staff was wonderful!

the waiting game

last weekend, my little brother ryan and his girlfriend came to lincoln to visit.  we had a great time, and it sure helped another weekend being preganant go by quickly!  we spent a lot of time watching husker softball and had a blast.  evie sure loves her uncle ry ry!

the latest in evie land

it's so hard for me to even write an update on evie.  this is, by far, the best age.  terrible twos...such a myth...at least from what we ar experiencing.  of course we see a little attitude from time to time...but she is so entertaining it doesn't even matter.  for example...every morning when we get evie out of her room, she comes upstairs and climbs into bed with erik.  we turn on elmo or dora for her and she watches a bit of tv while erik tries to catch a few more moments of sleep and i get ready for work. one morning when they were laying in bed, erik was giving her a hard time and teasing her.  she looked at him and said..."no daddy.  go back to night night."

she's inquisitive and curious.  this past weekend, evie came with me to a work bbq.  she was going around asking everyone "what are you?!" ...meaning what is your name?  she wanted nothing to do with mommy at the party.  in fact, if i even made eye contact with her she would put her hand up and say "no mommy...stay back."  apparently, she believes that i am the fun stomper.  and she wanted none of it.  she soaked in people letting her be the center of attention.  pretty sweet watching her bounce from person to person.  she investigated every thing in that back yard.  the bird bath, the leaves, the flowers.  and she made sure that someone was with her at all times to share those moments with...except mommy.  ha.

one thing i have noticed, is she really enjoys pretend play now.  we can sit in front of her little play kitchen and she makes us all sorts of food items.  (daddy is thrilled she likes to pretend cook!)  she plays independently very well.  one day, we even found real popcorn inside her little fake microwave.  she's a genius!   hours are spent in front of her doll house.  i can hear her talk to the baby the way i talk to her.  "careful baby.  you precious."  "no no.  it's hot."  "ooooo poopies.  change yerrr diaper!  poopies go in big potty."

we find her animal friends setup like this frequently.

i'm looking forward to my maternity leave for many reasons.  i can't wait to meet this new baby.  but, i am thrilled to spend so many non-interrupted days (away from work) with evie!

38 weeks +

just over 38 weeks.  phew.  where has the time gone!?  this past weekend, my sister.in.law ashley snapped some photos of evie & i.  evie was a real trooper and was loving the lens!  ashley has such a great eye and really helped capture evie's personality in these pics.  couldn't be more thrilled!

it will be interesting to see when this sweet baby decides to join us.  i was just 39 weeks when evie came into the world...so really i could have this baby any day.  everyday i walk into work, people are surprised to see me.  i'm carrying much lower this pregnancy. plus i feel much more impatient than i ever remember feeling with evie.  so i'm trying to remember that she will come when she is ready.  i sure hope its sooner rather than later!!
